The eve of the odyssey . . .

Tomorrow morning, Sunday, my 25-year-old daughter Shana and I will set out on the 1000-mile drive to Sicily. My 2002 black and white Mini Cooper will be packed pretty full with remnants of the end of school here in Germany and summer in the USA. Two coffee pots, a laptop, a new CD wallet filled with music, papers, books, clothes, shoes, sunglasses, gas coupons, maps, Italian language CDs, and more . . . hopefully everything we might need.

Our plan is to just drive, sightsee, stop when when want, and arrive there in 3-4 days. Tomorrow we will stop for lunch in the village where I used to live, Kleinholzhausen, in the Bavarian Alps, just a few miles from the Austrian border. I look forward to seeing my former landlord and his family and having a great German lunch at his gasthaus. Then, one more tank of ESSO gas (the official gas of the US military) and off we go through Austria and over the Alps near Innsbruck. We plan to stop in Bolzano, in northern Italy, for a look at the famous "Ice Man" who was discovered in the high Alps just a few years ago. He's kept frozen, and it's a great exhibit. Then, back on the autostrada and we'll see how far we get until we decide to stop for the night.

Hopefully, I will figure out how to post from my cellphone. Otherwise, it will be several days before this is updated. Arrividerci! Auf Wiedersehen!

Gee, just think once you get to your next stop and take a minute to write of your adventures--can you imagine how we will all be hanging on the edge of our seats, waitng to hear-perhaps about the man who stopped you by the side of the road who wanted to show you how he made his special pasta because he knew you and Shana had to have it but --HOLD ON!! perhaps when you stopped at Kleinholzhausen, in the Bavarian Alps, just a few miles from the Austrian border, you started to Yoddle and loved it so much you just stayed and YODDLED-is that it Maryellen? Last night I thought I heard you about 3am-- was that you? If I learn to speak Italian really well could I possibly come and live with you for a few days-I can sleep on the heart rug that is in the mail-- I'll curl up in the shape of a heart and you'll never even know I am there--I'll blend right in--then I will wake up and make you and Shana breakfast. So you like Wheaties-- Your photo should be on the box since you are making this exciting trip-- the eyes of all AMERICA will be on you-- as we eat our breakfast-- then I could go to class with you and learn so many things--I promise I will be very quiet-like a litle mouse sitting in the corner rapidly taking notes-- but I may ask you many questions--I must hurry now and pack--
I'M GOING TO ITALY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" I hope you brought lots of bockwurst with you-- don't you just love it-How is the super mini-cooper holding up? I took my little one out of its' box and whizzed it around my tables and chairs so I could feel as though I were traveling with you- Mine is red with a white top-- I had a hard time though trying to squeeze my luggage in it to come and visit you--but HARK!!--it was a success-Now all I have to do is find an ESSO station! In the meantime Maryellen I shall be anxioulsy awaiting your next post--Enjoy Enjoy!! Odiejames
